Ursprünglich entspringt er den späten siebziger Jahren, als US-Bands wie The Flamin’Groovies, Plimsouls, Real Kids oder auch The Knack durch die entstandene Punk’n Roll-Attitüde einen „neuen Stil“ etablierten, der ihre Leidenschaft gegenüber Pophelden vergangener Tage wie den Beatles, den Zombies oder den Byrds offenbarte, sowie einen zeitgemäß, druckvollen Ausdruck fand. The Cheeks zelebrieren Powerpop, wobei sie unablässig an den Wurzeln saugen. Auch sie basteln aus ihren handgeschliffenen Popperlen einen zeitgemäßen Schmuck - ein einzigartiges Mosaik aus den Einflüssen der letzten vier Jahrzehnte, das nicht etwa nach Teenspirit riecht - nein, es „duftet“ danach . Die Aufnahmen zu ihrem zweiten Album „Royal Pop Elevation“ finden unter guten Produktionsbedingungen statt. Es entsteht der „Real Sound“. 13 Originale und eine Coverversion ( Let’s Be Friends Again – by The Toms), schön-tragisch oder nur zynisch, zirkulieren im Strudel ultra-eingängiger Melodien. Experimente mit Tasteninstrumenten haben gezeigt, dass zukünftig auch „live“ auf ein gnadenloses Hammond Orgel Inferno nicht mehr verzichtet werden soll. Das Label Wolverine Records/SPV, auf dem Powerpop und poppiger Punk schon immer zuhause war (siehe auch:Psychotic Youth, Yeti Girls, Square the Circle und Germ Attack) hat sich bereit erklärt diesen Tonträger ab Ende März 2001 öfter zu verkaufen, als jedes bislang erschienene Produkt. Und das ist mit den tollen Singleauskopplungen "Mr.Rain" und „Disappointed“, sicher durchaus zu erwarten! Seit der Gründung im Frühjahr 95’ fielen The Cheeks immer wieder durch stilvolle Darbietungen ihrer elektrisierenden Bühnenpräsenz auf, was sie auf zahlreichen Clubtouren mit coolen Bands zusammenbrachte wie The Lemonheads, Dwarves, ElVez, The Zeros, Psychotic Youth, Yum Yums, The Smugglers, McRackins, Lurkers, 999, The Kids, The Satelliters, Stunde X, The Bates, Sunny Vincent, Wayne Kramer, The Popnauts, Stella… um nur einige zu nennen. Der Motor dieser fünf Rock’n Roll-Dandys aber bleibt ihre Liebe zum Songwriting! Er rotiert unermüdlich auf der Jagd nach Innovationen im Popuniversum.
