| 12-06-06 14:56 PATCHANKA By MIKE |
At the end of 2002, five old friends,
feeling more or less disheartened due to the winter’s endless
grasp on the Danish land, got together to create music.
Previously, they all played music either together
or worked on different projects.
Although this belongs to a distant time,
it includes lots of happy memories.
Many things had happened since the days of living the
life of punk and metal in North Zealand, Denmark.
The five had been more than flirting with Latin rhythms and language,
and had similarly been warming to the elements of Caribbean
and African music.
Musically however, not all was lost or forgotten,
as they remained conscious of their first love: rock and punk.
In order to pursue the good vibe of playing music together and to get
through another Danish winter, the five young men decided to form
a band: Patchanka was born!
The musical road Patchanka is heading down, first and foremost, brings elements of ska,
reggae and more classical Latin rhythms.
Patchanka composes their own songs and lyrics which musically exceed traditional boundaries.
Therefore, it is often difficult to classify their music style and sound.
The band sees these complexities more as an advantage and as a
way of fusing together these genres they hold close to their hearts.
Lyrically, the content of Patchanka’s songs range from everyday things
such as the ideal party, experiences from other parts of the world,
to more local issues relating to social and political injustices.
Patchanka frequently rehearse the community of Nørrebronx, Copenhagen,
where their regular-falafel-pusher lives.
Shout out to “La Casa!”
