Formed in 2001 Pama International released their debut album in April 2002 to critical acclaim the world over. DJ’s in Venezuela, USA, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Australia, France and UK, including David Rodigan on Kiss 100, Radio One and XFM all spinning Pama’s eclectic soundclash of soul-injected ska and reggae sounds.
Fronted by Finny and Sean Flowerdew (Skanga, Special Beat, Skooby & The Loafers) and a rhythm section boasting Fuzz Townshend (insatiable solo artist, Bentley Rhythm Ace and Pop Will Eat Itself drummer) and Ernie McKone (Galliano and Paul Weller bassman) it’s little wonder Pama have been building an awesome reputation on the live scene.
2002 saw headlining slots at London’s Camden Underworld and Soho’s Blow Up night club plus an appearance at London’s Respects Festival (with an estimated 80,000 in attendance), whilst 2003 brought Pama International to an even wider audience with numerous shows around the UK including shows stopping performances alongside 2 Tone legends The Beat and Japanese skacore heroes Rudebones. The year was rounded off in fine fashion with a Radio One session being broadcast on Mike Davies’ Lock Up show.
Not content to keep their sound to the music world alone six appearances on film soundtracks have already been landed. The most successful of which is included on Pama’s debut, the Flowerdew penned ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’, as featured on ‘Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels’. The most recent being tracks included on Dave Courtney’s new film ‘Hell To Pay’ (due out this June).
Work is now completed on Pama’s much awaited second album, which is already being described as a “an incredibly chilled, sunkissed masterpiece”. Titled ‘Too Many Freaks Not Enough Stages’ it is due for release on Jamdown Records on 5th April 2004 (distributed by Plastic Head). Also due for a release in early 2004 is Pama’s second French 7”, this time on the superb B-Soul Records (subsidiary of Larsen Records). To promote the release Pama have just completed a sell-out 10 date tour of the UK and are now scheduling Swiss and Italian dates (April’04), plus summertime festivals, scooter rallies and select club shows for the rest of the year.
