Overview
Dr Raju are a dance oriented band, with an emphasis on entertainment and a good time atmosphere. We formed in 1993, by bringing together some talented musicians and performers. Dr Raju know how to play danceable music and involve the audience. Dr Raju combines SKA, R&B, Reggae and Soul to produce an infectious combination of both covers and originals that emanates entertainment.
The Front People
Norbert L'Moore Despite his unfortunate appearance, Norbert never stops moving and keeps a crowd on their toes. When the crowd sees him, they immediately feel better about themselves.
Jane This woman has a smooth vocal style, combined with the looks to keep an audience under her spell - or else!.
The Brass Section
Sweet-Lips Kelly Hirsute in all the wrong places, Sweet-Lips makes his alto sax squeal with delight.
Dr Black The Dr not only plays a mean tenor sax, but also choreographs the brass section's skilful dance movements.
Auntie Anita The baritone babe. Anita appears on all our recordings and plays with us live when it fits in with her busy schedule. She is a legend.
The Rhythm Section
Mick Fink The backbone of the rhythm section. Mick is an amazing drummer and the females of the species love his smile. You can’t tell where his arms stop and the drumsticks start!.
Phineus Taylor Phineus has such control over his bass, that he has lost all control of his facial expressions. The audience is advised not to look at him.
Dave “Gus” Gus is very tall and thin. His fingers are capable of pleasuring a woman from 4 metres away
Gustavson and tickling the bass most sensually. He is the baby of the band.
Appearances
Dr Raju have played to audiences all over Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Newcastle. As a result, Dr Raju have had the opportunity to play to a wide cross section of people, each time the crowd response has been very enthusiastic. Audiences have included Uni' crowds, Independents, Pub goers, Northern Beaches and SKA aficionados. Dr Raju has also recorded two video clips and appeared in various forms (live & background music, to being extras) on numerous TV shows.
